Paine Estate - a glimpse into Waltham's past

Writer: tatianatatiana

On Monday, May 20th, the 3rd grade visited Stonehurst, the Robert Treat Paine Estate. Located in Waltham, the Paine Estate is a National Historic Landmark with over a hundred acres of public open space, including trails. The main house located on the top of the hill was the country home of Robert Treat Paine and his family, designed by architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who focused on environmentally sensitive design. The class learned about the Paine family, including the youngest daughter Lily, explored the vernal pool, made leaf prints and found secret hiding places as part of a scavenger hunt.
