This year, thanks to funds generously provided by the Mass Cultural Council as well as the Dual Language PTO, our first grade drama students had the opportunity to work with Waltham puppet artist Sarah Nolen of Puppet Motion Co.  First they took a trip to Puppet Showplace Theater in Brookline, MA, where they caught a performance of "Lisa the Wise". Based on the Russian folktale "Vasalisa the Wise", this performanced used imaginative shadow puppetry to tell a hilariously spooky story about the experiences that make us wise. Our students then got a glimpse behind the curtain of what it takes for Ms. Sarah to perform her puppet shows. Finally, students worked throughout the month of March to create their own shadow puppets during drama classes. This artist residency ended with students getting a chance to stand behind the screen and bring their own animal shadow puppets to life. We are so thankful for everyone involved in making Dual Language first artist residency a success!
